Rome is notoriously difficult for travelers with limited mobility. The "sampietrini" (cobblestones) are uneven, curbs are high, and elevators in the Metro often don't work. However, the Hop-On Hop-Off buses can be a genuine lifeline.

Wheelchair users generally cannot access the upper deck. The only way up is a narrow, steep spiral staircase.
